Guidelines for the title of Professional Engineer (PE)


Dear Engineer!

Congratulation on your decision for applying for the title of Professional Engineer (PE), You have developed your ability beyond that achieved in your academic formation to a Professional Engineer. It is also mark of your commitment to Continuing Professional Development of your professional expertise.

Achieving the title of Professional Engineer is an important landmark in any Engineer’s career. Successful achievement of title of Professional Engineer, will require effort and determination on your part as with any internationally recognized hallmark of Professional excellence.

These guidelines will assist you the requirements for the title of PE. It is important to read the guidelines familiarize yourself with what is required for the title of PE. These guidelines also explain how to confirm your eligibility for the title of PE.

  1. Definition of Registered Engineer (RE)
  2. “Registered Engineer” means a person who holds an accredited engineering qualification, whether working privately or in the employment of an engineering public organization and is registered as such by the Council. Registered Engineer shall perform all professional engineering works except independently signing design

  3. Definition of Professional Engineer (PE)
  4. “Professional Engineer” means a person who holds an accredited engineering qualification and after obtaining a professional experience of five years, whether working privately or in the employment of an engineering public organization, has passed the prescribed engineering practice examination and is registered as such by the Council

Who can apply for the title of Professional Engineer (PE) ?

  • Category-I: RE who has passed EPE exam
  • Category-II: Engineer not yet registered with PEC but obtained degree of Bachelor of Engineering prior to April 2005
  • Category-III: Holding title of C.Eng or P.Eng of international recognized Professional bodies i.e. ECUK, ABET, Engineers Australia, BEM etc.

Eligibility Criteria for the title of Professional Engineer PE:


Category-I: Registered Engineer can apply for title of PE, provided:
  1. He/she is registered with PEC as Registered Engineer.
  2. Has minimum five years of relevant professional experience after graduation.
  3. He/she has passed EPE conducted by PEC.
  4. Earned required 17 CPD points since August 2010.
Requirements:
  1. Submission of application through PEC online registration system.
  2. Evidence of passing EPE.
  3. Evidence of completion of 17 CPD points.
  4. Experience sheet as per format available on PEC website.
  5. Professional competency profile as per format available on PEC website.
Category-II: Engineering graduates can apply for title of PE, provided:
  1. He/she has acquired engineering qualification from Pakistani Engineering Universities/Institutes duly accredited with PEC.
  2. He/she graduated before March 2005.
  3. Has minimum 10years experience after graduation.
  4. Earned required 17 credit points after august 2010.
Requirements:
  1. Submission of application through PEC online Registration system.
  2. Copy of degree along with transcript.
  3. Evidence of completion of 17 CPD points.
  4. Experience sheet as per format available on PEC website
  5. Professional competency profile as per format available on PEC website.
Category-III: A Professional Engineer can apply provided:
  1. He/she has acquired the title of Chartered Engineer (C.Eng) or Professional Engineer (P.Eng) from internationally recognized professional bodies, under Washington Accord (WA) signatories.
  2. Whether registered with PEC as RE or not but holding title of C.Eng or P.Eng from internationally recognized professional bodies.
Requirements:
  1. Submission of application through PEC online Registration system.
  2. Copy of C.Eng Certificate or P.Eng issued by international engineering body.
  3. Experience sheet as per format available on PEC website.
  4. Professional competency profile as per format available on PEC website.

Assessment and Interview for award of PE title:

  • After receipt of application, your academic and professional credentials will be evaluated. The authenticity and genuineness will be verified from the concerned university and professional bodies etc. Your application will be processed for assessment and you will be called for assessment/interview for title of PE.
  • Assessment interviews will normally last for between 30 and 45 minutes by minimum two members of panel of experts having not less than twenty years of Professional standing. You will be provided 5 to 10 minutes at the start of interview to give an uninterrupted verbal presentation about your professional competency. No presentation equipment will be allowed.
  • You should use these 5-10 minutes to give brief overview on credentials meeting the criteria for professional engineer. The panel of experts will then question you in relation to the contents of your application, focusing on your area of expertise.
  • Panel of experts/Enrolment Committee are bound by PEC and code of ethics to maintain confidentiality of assessment and information/data provided by you.
  • Your credentials will be assessed by Panel of experts/Enrolment Committee. However, in case of commendable/acceptable professional work based on the submitted document’s assessment, the panel may grant waiver on the necessity of an interview. You will be notified accordingly.
  • If you are required to attend an assessment interview, you will be asked to appear before panel of expert/Enrolment Committee for interview assessment accordingly.

Fee structure for the title of PE:

Payment of Rs 5,500/. (Rupees five thousand and five hundred only).
The fee can be deposited/transferred to MCB or HBL account using;

  1. Online e-banking account (View Details)
  2. ATM
  3. Mobile application In case of online transfer, please attach the detail of transfer (normally provided by your bank after fund transaction in the form of email or pdf file).

Note:

PEC does not have foreign currency account, therefore fee can be deposited in Pak rupees at conversion exchange rate on the day of deposit of fee.
