Guidelines for PE

“Professional Engineer” means a person who holds an accredited engineering qualification and after obtaining a professional experience of five years, whether working privately or in the employment of an engineering public organization, has passed the prescribed engineering practice examination and is registered as such by the Council.

Who can apply for the title of Professional Engineer (PE) ?

  • Category-I: A Registered engineer (RE), who has qualified EPE exam
  • Category-II: An “RE” or an “Engineering graduate, not yet registered with PEC”,  but graduated on or before January 15, 2008 (through assessment/ Interview)
  • Category-III: Possessing  professional title of C.Eng or CP.Eng of internationally recognized Professional Bodies of IPEA member Countries i.e. ECUK, ABET, Engineers Australia, BEM etc

Eligibility Criteria

Category-I:

  1. Must be registered as R.E with PEC 
  2. He/She has qualified EPE exam conducted by PEC

Requirements:

  1. Submission of application through PEC online registration portal
  2. Evidence of qualifying EPE (result or letter from PEC)
  3. Experience sheet as per format available on PEC website
  4. Evidence of CPD points after qualifying EPE Exam, as per CPD policy.

Category-II:

  1. REs graduated on or before January 15, 2008
  2. Engineering graduates not yet registered with PEC but obtained accredited qualification on or before  January 15, 2008
  3. Accredited Engineering qualification mentioned under 1st Schedule and Second schedule of PEC Act (for applicants at Sr. No. 2 only)
  4. Has minimum 10 years professional work experience after graduation (for applicants at Sr. No. 2 only)
  5. Earned required CPD points since August 2010 See details

Requirements:

  1. Submission of application through PEC online Registration Portal
  2. Evidence of completion of 17 CPD points
  3. Experience sheet as per format available on PEC website, along with Experience certificates from the employers with details of assignment/projects executed and achievements covering application of knowledge and skills.
  4. Self-Assessment evaluation report as  per the template,  available on PEC website
  5. Assessment of Experts(s) though evaluation of report and Interview before Enrolment Committee 
  6. Evidence of CPD points after qualifying EPE Exam, as per CPD policy.

Category-III:

  1. Accredited Engineering qualification mentioned under 1st Schedule and Second schedule of PEC Act (for applicants at Sr. No. 2 only)
  2. Possessing  professional title of C.Eng or CP.Eng of internationally recognized Professional Bodies of IPEA member Countries i.e. ECUK, ABET, Engineers Australia, BEM etc

Fee structure for the title of PE:

Payment of RS. 5,500/- (Rupees five thousand and five hundred only) in favor of Pakistan Engineering Council.

Mechanism for Assessment and Interview for award of PE title:

  • After receipt of application, academic and professional credentials will be evaluated. The authenticity and genuineness will be verified from the concerned Institutions/ universities and professional bodies etc. The application will be processed for assessment, and the applicant will be called for assessment/interview for title of PE.
  • Assessment interviews will normally last for between 20 and 30 minutes by minimum two members of
    panel of experts having not less than twenty years of Professional standing. The applicant will be provided 5 to 10 minutes at the start of interview to give an uninterrupted verbal presentation about his professional competency. No presentation equipment will be allowed.
  • The applicant to give brief overview on credentials meeting the criteria for professional engineer. The panel of experts will then ask questions  in relation to the contents of your application, focusing on  area of expertise of the applicant.
  • Panel of Experts/Enrolment Committee are bound by PEC and code of ethics to maintain confidentiality of assessment and information/data provided by the applicant.
  • Credentials will be assessed by Panel of Experts/Enrolment Committee. However, in case of commendable/acceptable professional work based on the submitted document’s assessment, the panel may grant waiver on the necessity of an interview.
  • If needed to attend an assessment/ interview, the applicant will be asked to appear before the panel of Expert/Enrolment Committee for assessment/ interview accordingly.
