Continuing Professional Development of Engineers

(Under Professional Development of Engineers Byelaws-2008)

Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) as per its mandate is pursuing Professional Development of Engineers for the enhancement of their technical knowledge, expertise and communication skills in their career. Realizing the importance of international recognition of engineering qualification and cross-border mobility of our engineering graduates, and to provide them access to international job market, PEC has taken several initiatives. As a landmark achievement, PEC has become the provisional signatory of ‘Washington Accord” in June 2010. The process for membership of ‘Engineers Mobility Forum (EMF)” is also in progress.

PEC framework for “Professional Development of Engineers Byelaws-2008 (notified vide SRO No. 1310(I)/2008 dated 26th December 2008)” stipulates mandatory continuing professional development needs of a “Registered Engineer (RE)” and “Professional Engineer (PE)” in Pakistan. These Byelaws have become effective from 10th July 2010 onwards. Under these Byelaws, acquisition of CPD credit points is mandatory for renewal of all existing PEs and REs, and registration of new PEs (details available on PEC website: www.pec.org.pk). PEC regularly conducts CPD activities which will also be imparted by the Professional Engineering Bodies registered with PEC all over the country; list available on PEC website.

All the engineers registered with PEC are hereby informed of these mandatory CPD requirements. For any query/ clarification, please contact the followings:
