PEC and ILO jointly hosted the National Tripartite Validation Workshop
Islamabad, December 9, 2024 – Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) and International Labour Organization (ILO) jointly hosted the National Tripartite Validation Workshop on the successful development of first-ever Occupational Safety and Health Code of Practice for the Construction Sector of Pakistan (OSH-CSP-2024). The tripartite constituents including the government, employers, workers and key stakeholders participated in the event. The senior management of PEC, ILO, Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development (MOPHRD), Federal and Provincial Labour Departments of four federating units, Pakistan United Workers Federation, National Labour Federation of Pakistan addressed during the event. PEC and ILO carried out a series of four tripartite workshops nationwide for dissemination of social dialogue and effective consultations process by taking onboard relevant stakeholders while developing OSH-CSP-2024. The OSH-CSP-2024 would ensure the effective implementation of international OSH standards and best practices to control the accelerated rate of occupational accidents, injuries and fatalities among the workforce associated with the construction sector of Pakistan. Engr. Dr. Sarosh Hashmat Lodi, Senior Vice Chairman, PEC presented a hardbound copy of OSH-CSP-2024 code document to the Mr. Geir Tonstol, Director, ILO country office Pakistan and Mr. Sohail Ahmed Khawaja, Joint Secretary, MOPHRD.
